Denim Jacket + Dress

My apologies to Marty McFly, but it took me a little while to get on board with jean jackets. Not entirely sure why...maybe because I wear denim all the time and want to avoid the whole Canadian tuxedo thing. Or perhaps because I'm quasi blazer addicted and needed white, then black, then black with leather lapels, then navy, then tan, then a print...forget "quasi," it's a full-blown problem. Ahem. Moving on...

It can be surprisingly hard to find the right denim jacket; it's such an American classic, yet you have to find the right style for you. The right wash, the right fade, the right fit. After a few hits and misses, I L-O-V-E this blue jean baby from the Gap.

It's got that "juuuust right" Goldilocks thing going on: a semi-snug fit that doesn't feel too tight or look too boxy. The sleeves are easy to roll up on a warm afternoon or when you want that "it looks like I didn't try at all but I actually worked hard to nail this cuff" casual vibe. It's available in regular and petite sizing, a great benefit of shopping with the Gap company.

I've been dying to wear this scalloped swing dress from Scout Boutique since I picked it up a few weeks back. My profile on Scout is coming soon; you won't want to miss it! Suuuuch a cute shop, there will be much more where this came from! The neckline is my favorite part, but the dress as a whole is a great dress up/dress down option. Easy peasy with flat sandals for day tripping, glammy whammy with heels and a clutch for a summer wedding. Blues in general are such a springy color, especially the navy/nautical variety. I love to offset the rich hue with a bold red lip.

I thought it'd be fun to draw attention to the scallop detail with an eye-catching necklace and I looooove wearing my Twine & Twig tassel necklace. Mine has a white tassel with blue and cream beading, but they do come in a variety of shades and accent colors. Porter & Prince here in Asheville has a lovely assortment of Twine & Twig necklaces that you can shop in store or online. The shop in Biltmore Village is so amazing, I highly recommend going down there if you haven't already been! And it looks like they just started carrying another personal fave, Bourbon & Boweties bracelets. Hashtag yassss. Hashtag shop local.
