Girl x Flower Power | Bloggers Meet Birdie The Flower Truck
I just love when I get to collaborate with my fellow Asheville style bloggers! In April we banded together at Honeysuckle Hill for a spring fashion shoot to highlight our capsule wardrobes. Birdie the Flower Truck (of local Asheville florist Blooms On Tap) joined the party and really just stole the show. Honestly, nothing beats a tiny little flower truck loaded down with colorful blooms and succulents. Maybe the very definition of darling!
When I moved back to Asheville almost three years ago I noticed there weren't very many fashion bloggers highlighting local style. Then I discovered these three ladies -- Stephanie, Kirby, and Courtney -- putting their own unique stamp on personal style and WOW we hit it off! Stephanie is a champion of sustainable fashion, Kirby a vintage connoisseur, Courtney a maven of minimalism.
They've all influenced my own personal style journey, whether it's making me think more about what I buy, revisiting old items in my closet, or feeling empowered by the old 'less is more' approach to getting dressed. And if you can't tell, we have a terrible time when we get together haha! Good friendship is rolling around in the grass cry laughing.
We organized this shoot to capture our shared love for capsule wardrobes. Here's a little blurb we wrote about why we believe so strongly in building a core group of staples in your closet!
"While experts and everyday women may disagree how many pieces constitute a capsule wardrobe (we say anywhere between 10-30), what it must be is essential. Built upon quality core pieces that speak to your personal style, influence your outfit rotation, and serve your lifestyle. Capsule wardrobes throw water on the fast fashion consumerist fire that tells us we need to be constantly shopping and spending. Buy less, wear more. Buy well, love more. They force you to think about your style and your habits with a focused intention. To figure out once and for all just what it is you value in your clothing, how it fits, and how you feel in it."
For this shoot I wanted to wear pieces that illustrate my capsule wardrobe in action; pieces that I wear on repeat in a variety of ways. I wrote a whole post on how to style these cropped white pants (seriously could wear them every day). I wear this bodysuit and hat on a weekly basis, and love these mules for a comfy alternative to spring sandals. Summer whites are so chic and easy to style, it doesn't take an expert to explain that. So I put together this monochromatic look as another idea for styling up your summer staples! If wearing one color head-to-toe is up your alley, I did post featuring four monochromatic looks for summer I'd love you to read!
Are you a believer in capsule wardrobes? Do you want to be but don't know where to start? Don't worry, girl I got you -- this is the first step you should take towards creating a capsule wardrobe. Trust me, it makes the whole exercise way easier.
