Denim Dress Two Ways

The minute I saw this denim shirt dress I instantly knew it would be a hero piece for my wardrobe. It just had that "easy throw-on option that's super cute" thing written all over it. I could think of several ways to wear it right off the top of my head so I knew it was a smart purchase for me to make. Item >> add to cart >> checkout >> see you three to five business days!

The great thing about a denim shirtdress besides it's simplicity is it's versatility. Obviously right now during the summer I can wear this with sandals or sneakers and hit the floor running. It's a dress option for even the busy days doing the mom hustle. But it's also a great option to have when we start transitioning into fall (because like it or not it's gonna happen!).

Fall fashion is synonymous with boots, sweaters, and cozy layers. I used two of my favorite, most-worn pairs of boots to anchor each look. Then I added a top layer for chilly fall weather, a cute cross body bag, and voila! Done and done.

Look 1

I love how the long, loose knit of this cardigan closely matches the length of the dress. The soft neutral sweater played off the gray suede boots for a casual, relaxed look.

Style tip: when layering jackets over dresses and skirts, you either want both hemlines to match fairly closely OR you want to choose a shorter style to hit at your waistline. A top layer that hits midway between your waist and your skirt's hemline divides the body into too many sections, creating an unflattering, disjointed appearance.

Look 2

The piece I most often think about wearing over a good fall dress is a leather jacket! A good leather jacket and the right ankle booties can give just about any outfit instant style cred. This denim shirtdress is no exception -- love how this turned out! I could also wear a jacket in the brown/taupe family with booties to match.

Style tip: Use your bag to pull in a different neutral and break up the "matchy" look of the coordinating jacket and boots.

My exact dress is currently sold out in standard sizing but is still available in petite sizes. Depending on the piece I will buy petite sizes sometimes in one size up from my typical size, so usually a petite medium for me. This dress has so much extra length that I would totally try this trick with this particular item. I'm 5'8" and this dress comes almost to my knees.

I also found these very similar denim shirt dresses that will give you the same look. It's all in the styling, so pairing up your dress with the right boots and jackets/sweaters will be the key. See my style tips above for ideas on how to put it together!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today! I'm working hard on bringing you some new content but my schedule has been so hectic it's a little slow going right now. I have some great ideas and I'm excited to share them with you soon!

Hope you're having a beautiful week!
